Cairns Specialized Cabinets was established in 2004 by Michael’s brother Andrew, where Michael began working in a Project Management role in 2011 after working in the building and construction industry 20 years prior. The business was purchased in 2013 by Michael & Helen.

Michael loves offering his clients unique design solutions for both new homes and renovations. Through Michael’s background in painting & decorating, Michael can draw on his extensive knowledge of colour to provide advice and guidance during the design stage.

Helen has a background in education, teaching primary school over a 20-year period including a managerial position. Helen retired from teaching to assume the role of administration and finance when Michael and Helen purchased Cairns Specialized Cabinets. Helen draws on her past experiences to promote a positive team culture.

Helen enjoys design and decorating. "I love seeing how a renovation can transform a client’s kitchen, bathroom or laundry from a tired, outdated room to a beautiful space they can enjoy."

Robbie has been with Cairns Specialized Cabinets since the year 2008 and has been a qualified tradesperson since 1994. He is experienced in window joining, cutting flat packs, postforming laminated benchtops, assembling and installing cabinets. The first in Cairns to be trained in the use of a CNC machine, he ensures the factory floor runs smoothly.

Robbie enjoys working with raw materials, solving joinery issues and building custom designs.

Locky began working at Cairns Specialized Cabinets as a school-based apprentice in 2012. He has 10 years' experience in the industry working as a part of the Cairns Specialized Cabinets team for this whole time. He is very knowledgeable in all aspects of the manufacturing process and is now an important part of our training program, mentoring apprentices. Locky enjoys working on the entire project, from cutting to assembling and installing and seeing the clients appreciate and enjoy the finished product.

"We installed a kitchen at a remote property between Musgrave and Laura, where a curved island bench was designed to fit around an internal column inside a pole home - that was a challenge."

Matt successfully completed his Cert III in Cabinet Making in 2023. During his trade he has learnt a combination of on-the-job training in the workshop and on-site installing at customer homes to gain the correct knowledge in the use of machinery and tools used to build, assemble and install cabinets. He is a valuable member of the team consistently producing work of a high standard.

Matt recently had experience templating a benchtop to precisely fit a curved wall in a commercial setting. Matt’s attention to detail ensured the delivery of a high-end result synonymous to Cairns Specialized Cabinets.

Bailey is undergoing his trade to be a qualified cabinet maker through TAFE and on-the-job training to gain the industry trade knowledge using machinery and tools used for designing, manufacturing, and installing.

Bailey is gaining valuable experience from our qualified senior cabinet makers both in our workshop and on-site.

"Working with a team who create custom designed cabinets that transform a client’s space is rewarding. Seeing satisfied customers is something we really enjoy."

Shelby is undergoing her trade to be a qualified cabinet maker through TAFE and on-the-job training to gain the industry trade knowledge using machinery and tools used for designing, manufacturing, and installing.

Shelby is gaining valuable experience both in our workshop and on-site under the guidance of our team of qualified cabinet makers.
